Directions:
Your hike begins in Schluderns, easily reached by car or train. From the village, follow trail no. 20 uphill for about 20 minutes to reach the impressive Churburg Castle – one of South Tyrol’s best-preserved fortresses. Just beyond it, the Bergwaal begins, leading you along a gentle, almost level path through quiet forests and untouched nature, always accompanied by the soft murmur of flowing water.
The return route follows the Saldur stream and the sunny Leitnwaal, passing open slopes and the historic Ganglegg hill, an archaeological site from the Bronze and Iron Ages. From there, trail no. 18 brings you back down to Schluderns.
