Fairy Forest & Chamois

A path that feels like a fairy tale: through mossy larch woods – the so-called “Fairy Forest” – you walk step by step towards the Kreuzjöchl. The air smells of pine and sunshine, the wind whispers through the trees, and with a bit of luck, a curious chamois might appear. At the top, no drama – just quiet beauty and wide views across the Martell Valley.

The path winds through a larch forest where sunlight turns golden. From the summit, the Martell Valley stretches endlessly below – and almost always, they’re there: the chamois, graceful and wild, keeping watch over the slopes.

Back “home” at das Bergfrieden again, a cool aperitif or a homemade drink is waiting – the perfect ending after such a view-filled day.

Starting from the village of Martell, follow trail no. 19 uphill to the Steinwandhof farm. Continue on trail no. 7 to Morter Leger, where a short, secured section requires surefootedness. From there, the trail no. 23 leads you up to the Kreuzjöchl (2,053 m) – one of the valley’s most scenic viewpoints.
The descent follows trail no. 1, quite steep at times but filled with silence, light, and sweeping mountain views.
