Sunrise on the Stone Giant

The Laaser Orgelspitze is a true balcony above the Vinschgau – a silent stone giant kissed awake by the first light of day. The trail leads through airy larch and pine forests, past a bubbling spring, across flower-filled slopes, and finally over rugged rock shoulders to the spacious summit. Up here, the world opens wide – the Ötztal Alps to one side, the valley far below, and endless stillness all around. A climb for mountain lovers with stamina and a sense for the quiet grandeur of nature.

The path winds through golden larch and pine woods before opening onto vast, rugged high mountain terrain. From the summit, the view stretches from the Ötztal Alps to the Dolomites – a place between sky and stone where time seems to pause.

After returning to the valley, stop by the Stallwieshof, the highest grain farm in Europe. The scent of freshly baked bread, mountain herbs, and homemade dishes fills the air. On the sun terrace, every bite tastes a little more genuine – a reminder of what “authentic” really means.

The ascent begins at the old mill just below the Stallwieshof (1,930 m). Follow trail no. 5 through open forest and past the clear “Stallquelle” spring. Soon, the trees give way to alpine terrain – the path climbs steeply over rocky slopes to a shoulder at about 2,950 m, marked by cairns and wide-open views. From here, the summit comes into sight. Continue over rocky slabs and scree, always well-marked, until you reach the large summit cross. After a well-deserved break, descend along the same route.
