The Butzenspitze is glacier-free, making it ideal for experienced ski mountaineers who appreciate solitude and panoramic views. In the upper section, surefootedness is required, but you’re rewarded with an unforgettable 360° view of the Ortler mountain range – pure winter majesty.

After your return, the Zufallhütte (2,264 m) invites you to stop for a hot soup or a slice of homemade cake – best enjoyed while looking back at the ski trace you left in the snow.

Starting from the parking area in Hintermartell, follow the ascent track (trails no. 151/36/103) to the Zufallhütte (2,264 m). Just behind the hut (trail no. 150), the route leads through a narrow passage to the valley floor of the Plimabach (2,320 m). Continue further into the valley, passing the old dam wall until you reach the bridge over the Butzenbach (2,600 m). Shortly before, turn right into the Butzen Valley – where the quiet, wide world of the high-alpine winter begins.
Following the cairns, you climb over broad slopes and gently rising basins up to the Butzen Pass (3,256 m). From there, a short scramble along the ridge leads to the broad summit of the Butzenspitze (3,300 m). The descent follows the same route.
