Sunlit Silence Above the Martell Valley

A radiant winter day in the upper Martell Valley. The slopes shimmer in sunlight, snow crunches softly beneath your skis. The route climbs gently over open, south-facing hillsides toward the Kalvanwand – a panoramic summit that offers far more than expected. From the top, your gaze stretches across the valley to the quiet peaks of the Cevedale range and the bright contours of Königsspitze. A tour for those who love light, space, and peaceful movement.

The route passes through open, light-filled terrain with beautiful pine forests and grand views. It’s one of the safer ski tours in the valley regarding avalanche risk – ideal for quiet winter days spent in harmony with the mountains.

A stop at the Lyfialm (2,165 m) is a must – especially for its legendary “snow milk,” a traditional Vinschgau dessert that tastes of milk, vanilla, and sunshine.

Starting from the car park at the Enzian mountain inn (2,050 m) at the end of the valley, the route first follows the valley briefly outward, then continues along the marked forest road toward the Enzianalm and Lyfialm. After crossing the Peder stream, leave the main trail after about 100 m and turn left through open pine woods to reach the small, snow-covered Peder-Stieralm (2,252 m). From there, the track continues northward across wide, sunlit slopes toward the summit ridge. The final ascent follows the gentle, sun-drenched crest straight to the top of the Kalvanwand – a quiet place of light and vast horizons.
Descent follows the ascent route; with safe conditions, you can also enjoy a sweeping run down the broad southern slopes – pure pleasure when the spring snow carries well.
