A Quiet Summit with a King’s View

The ascent through the remote Butzen Valley leads you into untouched alpine wilderness, accompanied only by murmuring streams, whispering winds, and the steady presence of cairns guiding your way. At the summit, a breathtaking panorama unfolds: the mighty Ortler, Königsspitze, and Zebru trio rise directly before you, framed by Cevedale, Zufallspitze, and countless other three-thousanders. A summit for quiet souls – and for moments that linger long after you’ve descended.

Madritschspitze is a hidden gem. Cairns lead the way through the wide Butzen Valley, where silence reigns and nature feels untouched. From the summit, one of the most striking views in the Ortler region unfolds – a place of stillness and grandeur.

The Zufallhütte (2,264 m) is the ideal place for a hearty break before or after your climb – serving traditional dishes and panoramic views that soothe body and mind.

From the parking area at the end of the Martell Valley, follow trail no. 151 to the Zufallhütte (2,264 m). Continue on trail no. 150 through a narrow gorge to the old Plima dam (2,320 m). Keep heading west until the bridge over the Butzenbach at 2,600 m. Just before the bridge, turn right into the Butzen Valley – the quieter part of the tour begins here. Follow trail traces and cairns through a pristine mountain landscape up to the panoramic summit of the Madritschspitze (3,265 m). Descend via the same route.
