Winter Bliss Above the Plima Gorge

Picture this: you set off early, while the valley still sleeps. Above you, the peaks glow in the winter sun; beneath your skis, the snow crunches softly. Step by step, the trail leads you upward – through quiet forests, across open slopes, into a world of light and calm. At the top, the Marteller Hütte welcomes you with one of the most breathtaking views of the Ortler range – and the feeling that you’ve truly arrived.

This ski tour is a gentle invitation into the stillness of the mountains. No rush, no noise – just you, the snow, and the light. It leads through one of the most beautiful corners of the Martell Valley, gifting you with views that will stay long after you’re back home.

Inside the Marteller Hütte, the wood stove crackles; outside, the snow sparkles. Over a bowl of soup or a slice of warm apple strudel, you gaze toward Königsspitze, Zufallspitze, and Cevedale – a place to pause, refuel, and simply take in the beauty of the moment.

The tour begins at the large car park at the head of the Martell Valley. Cross the high bridge over the Plima Gorge – the gateway to winter silence. Shortly after, you pass the former Hotel Paradies and follow the marked trail no. 37 through snowy spruce forests. Continue along trail no. 40 to reach an open plateau and the historic glacier dam. From here, your track leads gently across the valley floor before turning left and ascending along the so-called winter ski trail to the Marteller Hütte. At around 2,550 m, the hut appears ahead – nestled among the white peaks of the Cevedale massif.
Descent follows the ascent route. If you wish, take a short detour to the Zufallhütte – a peaceful stop before returning to the valley.
