Winter Magic at the Valley’s End

One of the most beautiful winter hikes in the Martell Valley – quiet, white, and sparkling. From the Enzianhütte, the trail leads through snow-covered forests up to the old glacier dam “Beim Bau,” where the valley opens wide before you. Surrounded by deep winter silence, you continue on to the Zufallhütte, a small mountain wonder perched above the valley. Up here, time seems to pause for a while.

A snowshoe tour combining ease and grandeur. The surrounding glacier peaks – Cevedale, Zufallspitze, and the Venezia summits – accompany you along the way, while on the old dam you can feel a touch of history in the crisp winter air.

The Zufallhütte (Mountain hut 2,264 m) is a special place in winter – cozy, welcoming, and blessed with one of the most stunning views of the Martell Valley. Warm soup, strudel, or a cup of hot chocolate – every stop here feels like pure winter joy.

Your tour begins at the car park near the Enzianhütte at the valley head. From the turning area, walk left and cross the high bridge over the Plima Gorge – far below, you can hear the water rushing. Shortly after, pass the former Hotel Paradies and follow the marked trail no. 37. The path climbs gently through the snowy forest until you reach the tree line, where the landscape opens wide.
Ahead lies a white plateau – and in its center, the old glacier dam “Beim Bau,” which you cross. On the other side, trail no. 103 leads gently uphill to the Zufallhütte (2,264 m). Here, surrounded by snow and silence, a hot tea tastes twice as good. The descent follows  a slightly lower winter path back to the Enzianhütte.
