Winter Silence at South Tyrol’s Highest Mountain Farm

Across soft hills and through larch forests, your gaze sweeps over the snow-covered peaks of the Martell Valley, while the crisp air carries the scent of winter. At the end of the trail, the Stallwieshof awaits – South Tyrol’s highest grain farm – with the warmth of the wood stove and honest, home-cooked mountain fare.

The winter trail is regularly groomed and ideal for families and beginners. Above the farm, a small natural toboggan run offers a touch of fun for all ages – a quiet, sunlit spot to breathe deeply and recharge amid the mountain peace.

At the Stallwieshof, you’ll be welcomed with homemade specialties, warm hospitality, and one of the finest views over the Martell Valley. A highlight: their apple strudel with whipped cream – best enjoyed on the sunny terrace.

Your snowshoe hike starts directly at the Stallwieshof (1,931 m), accessible via the mountain road from Martell. Just behind the old mill, follow the wide forest path no. 15, which climbs gently out of the valley – a beautifully groomed winter trail winding through quiet mountain woods. At a large junction, turn left onto trail no. 23, which curves gracefully through the snowy landscape until you return to the fork.
From here, take trail no. 5, descending a bit more steeply – soon the Stallwieshof reappears, chimney smoke rising and the aroma of homemade dishes in the air.
