Experiences in the Martello Valley
Discover the Highlights

Kick off your active holiday in Venosta Valley and let yourself be surprised by unforgettable nature experiences and exciting spots around Das Bergfrieden.

Stelvio National Park

The entire Martello Valley lies in the heart of one of the largest national parks in the Alps – Stelvio National Park. Untouched forests, flowering alpine meadows and rare plants that grow only at this altitude create a unique natural habitat. With a bit of luck, you might spot bearded vultures, marmots or chamois moving across the rocky slopes and meadows.

culturamartell – The National Park Visitor Centre

Distance: approx. 7 minutes by car / 30 minutes on foot

At culturamartell you dive into the world of Stelvio National Park. Interactive exhibits, immersive installations and fascinating stories show how nature and humans have shaped life in Val Martello for centuries.

Tip: Perfect for rainy days – inspiring for all ages.

Lake Gioveretto – The emerald mountain lake

Distance: approx. 10 minutes by car / 1.5 hours on foot

At 1,850 meters you’ll discover a turquoise alpine lake surrounded by forests and rugged peaks. A place to pause, breathe and be amazed. Ideal for hiking, picnics or photography.

Tip: Mirror-like reflections in the early morning or a photo of the dam with the surrounding mountains. Adventurous spirits can try the climbing wall on the dam.

Trattla Leisure Centre – Active & relaxed

Distance: approx. 7 minutes by car / 30 minutes on foot

Tennis, mini golf, indoor climbing and bouldering – or simply sunbathing on the terrace. Everyone finds their personal holiday moment here: families, couples, adventure seekers.

Tip: The modern climbing hall invites beginners and pros.

Biathlon Centre Grogg – Experience real sports

Distance: approx. 12 minutes by car

Where biathlon professionals train for the World Cup, you can try cross-country skiing and even shoot at the range. A guided introduction makes it easy for beginners. More info at reception.

Tip: Action shot at the shooting range or a selfie on the trails.

Martello Strawberries – The valley’s sweet stars

Martello strawberries grow at up to 1,800 meters. Intensely aromatic and the pride of the valley. From May to October – fresh from small stands or at the annual Strawberry Festival in June.

Tip: Best enjoyed in a strawberry sundae or cake at Laura’s cafe Hölderle. Fresh berries and local products are available at the Erdbeerwelt in Trattla.

Plima Gorge – Spectacular cliff walkways

Distance: approx. 25 minutes by car, then scenic hike

A breathtaking natural spectacle: walk along suspended walkways and bridges right above the roaring Plima Gorge – safe, wild and unforgettable.

Tip: All four viewing platforms are incredibly instagrammable.

Historic Dam – A place full of energy

Distance: approx. 25 minutes by car, then scenic hike

Built centuries ago using only muscle power and simple tools, the dam protected the valley from glacial floods. A powerful testament to human strength, framed by untouched nature.

Tip: Comfortable loungers around the dam invite you to slow down.

Echoes of the past: the abandoned Hotel Paradiso

Distance: approx. 25 minutes by car

A place full of stories. Once a luxury hotel, today a fascinating lost place where nostalgia meets stillness.

Tip: Best view from the Plima Gorge trail.

Please respect the site: The building is closed – enjoy from the outside and stay on the path.

Time travel in the mountains: “Badhaus” museum at Zufall Hut

Distance: approx. 35 minutes by car

At 2,260 meters, you’ll find a silent witness of history: during WWI, the small stone house served as a bathhouse and delousing station for soldiers. Today a small but powerful alpine museum.

Tip: The perfect match for a hike to the Martello Mountain Hut or a stop at the Zufall Hut – with breathtaking views of the glacier and the Ortler mountain range.
